God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Come and see what the LORD has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
This morning, my Pastor was talking about Psalm 46 (which is above) and I found it so encouraging! This chapter is so amazing in the way that it proclaims God as the ultimate shelter, the ultimate peace giver, the ultimate protector, the ultimate...everything! HE is my refuge. HE is my strength. HE will protect me. HE will not let me fall. Because God is all of these things (and so many more!) we can run straight to Him in any trial, tribulation, rut, depression, sorrow...in any circumstance. He is and forever will be our God! He is always there for us to run to him.
I work at a daycare where I work with 2, 3 and 4 year olds. There is one little boy named Bryson who is two years old. He is absolutely adorable, probably one of my favorites. When he gets scared, or sad and needs something, he comes running to me. He knows that if he's afraid, his teacher will comfort him. If he's hurt, he knows he will be taken care of. With his arms open wide, tears pouring out of his eyes, and never looking back, he just runs to his teacher. He knows that I (and his other teachers) are there to take care of him and we wont let him go. This morning in church reminded me so much of how Bryson will just run to a teacher when he needs anything. Why does it take us so long to run to God like that? This little two year old is such a great example! We need to run with arms stretched out, tears and all, running full force and not looking back. No matter the tragedy going on in our lives, no matter the worries we face, no matter the difficult relationships or whatever it is. Just run. Run to the arms of your Savior!
I just read this Psalm this morning! I loved your thoughts on it. May the Lord bless you as you fly into His arms - there is no sweeter place to be.
