I've been watching a documentary, called Fall From Grace, about the Westboro Baptist Church. Now, please, please, please know: this is not meant to bash them at all, but a call to prayer. I first heard about this group in my sociology class this last semester. We watched a shorter documentary about this group in class and it bothered me so much I sat there and just wanted to cry. For those of you who haven't heard, here's whats up with this group.
The Westboro Baptist Church is a group that proclaims to be following Christ. Their main message is that everyone not in their group is a homosexual and is going to hell. They're message is driven by anger, hate and constant mis-use of scripture. This group pickets at military funerals saying that by holding a memorial service for the deceased soldier is worshiping the dead. They claim that any soldier who would fight for the US is a homosexual heathen who needs to be sent to hell. They proclaim that God hates America (I believe thats actually the name of tier website) and that God hate's everyone. Not once, that I have seen, do they offer a way of redemption, not once do they talk about the incredible love of Jesus Christ. It's all driven by hate. The leader of this "church" is Fred Phelps., who has been referred to a rage-aholic. Most of the members are his family (children, grandchildren, nieces, nephew's, etc.) and they are so blind! The children don't know why they're saying what they are, they just know its true. The children, and this is truly what breaks my heart, are blinded by this! They are being taught hate and anger!
So this is why I write this blog. They need prayer! They need to know the fullness of who God is! Yes, God hates sin, but he loves the sinner! So much so that He gave His only Son! So guys, if my brothers and sisters in Christ are reading, pray! Pray that they would experience God! That they would see that He IS a God of love! Pray that they would find that what they claim to do in the name of Jesus, is wrong! Pray that God would reveal Himself through scripture to this group!
Amen Sista! I'm glad you have been willing to show them love by not bashing them but by simply praying for them and showing concern for their spiritual well being! That's awesome! :)
