El Roi, the God who sees. Right now, this is something that just blows me away. El Roi is mentioned in Genesis where it is talking about Hagar and Sarai. If you don't know thier story, here is a condensed version just for you!
So, Sarai (who is later named Sarah) is married to Abram (later named Abraham). They are both old and have no children because Sarai is barren. But God promised Abram that he would be the father of many nations, so have many descendants. Sarai trys to hurry God up and gives her hand maid, Hagar, to her husband. So Hagar and Abraham have some alone time and she gets pregnant, just what Sarai wanted, right? Wrong. Sarai gets all mad that Hagar is now pregnant and goes and whines to her husband. He simply tells her to deal with it. So, she mistreats Hagar. I'm assuming she played the petty, ticked off, grown woman acting like a 13 year old girl car. Yeah, you know what I mean. So eventually Hagar has had enough and she leaves. So then as shes wandering, the Angel of the Lord finds her and asks her what shes doing. She tells him shes running away. Then, she is told to go back and serve Sarai. By doing this, she will have many descendants. So she now sees that it was the Lord telling her to go back and that is where the name El Roi is used. The God who sees.
God saw and knew Hagars circumstance but yet he called her back to it. And these past few days, this story has just been stuck in my head. El Roi knows what it was like last time I visited this "place" but yet He's possibly calling me back. But as scared, and so not ready for it, I know God will be breaking me and reshaping me in this next year. I can honestly say, I don't know what will happen. I'm not even sure what to expect. But I know that my Lord see's and has seen everything. I know He wont leave me abandonned. I know He will reveal Himself to me in the middle of drought and dessert. He is El Roi.
