From Friday Dec. 12
Yesterday, at 6pm Rwanda time, I began my journey back to the homeland of USA (sorry, I had to clarify because I have different homelands, one being the US and the other being Rwanda/whatever African country I’m going to). I said my goodbyes (some of the hardest goodbyes yet) and then got in to a taxi and went to the airport. Two of my dear friends/family members/staff members came with me and said goodbye at the airport. After going through all the lines, I sat down and waited. The tears came flooding in, and I looked like an emotional retarded baby. Once I got on the plane, I just couldn’t stop. But then God began to remind me of the amazing year that He has given me. He’d lead me to South Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. He’s used me to preach, teach, counsel, pray, lead, encourage and work all for the sake of the Gospel. I worked with the President of Burundi (we planted corn at a prison), rode in a dump truck to the bush bush, went to Lake Tanganyika, saw the Akagera River (between rwanda and Tanzania, I hiked up a mountain (a small one, but still, I did it). I saw women released from demons, people give their lives to Jesus and people transformed by Jesus Christ. In short - this year has been amazing, challenging, rewarding and maybe one of the most influential years of my life.
I am sad that it’s over. I am sad to leave Rwanda for about a year. I’m so sad to say goodbye to my Rwanda family.
But to lighten things up - here are some interesting things of my travel so far.
- That exciting moment when you sit in the middle of about 5 Rwandese women and their babies on the plane and you translate, in very, very, very bad Kinyarwanda. (Thankfully, it was things like “Do you want coffee? Water? Juice? Tray table needs to go up.) I think they were impressed. And...the flight attendant just looked at me like “WHAT?!?!?!”. And I was like “Thats right foo...I live in Rwanda now!”
- When I was going through boarder control in Rwanda, the guy said “Oh, you live here? When will you be back? You’re welcome home as soon as possible!” - That totally made my day better.
- That special moment when you have to ask the person in front of you to pass you your shoe.
- Why does there need to be screens in every bathroom stall? Why? - Europe be crazy
- And the weirdest for last - so many white people!
