Wow, what a week this has been. It has been hard, exhausting, amazing, rewarding and completely overwhelming. But I have loved it. I love that I am in Africa. I love that I get to just sit and learn about Jesus. I love that every activity is begun with prayer. I love that worship is a normal exercise. I love that we worship the same God in many languages. I love that God has called me here in the this season.
Wow, where to start. Well, here we go. There are 14 students. Two married couples both from Rwanda, 2 guys and 2 girls from Rwanda, a guy from Canada, a guy and girl from Holland, a girl from Germany and two of us from America. It is crazy how we have bonded, even though about half the team do not speak english as a first language.
Monday through Friday we have daily lectures, a new topic every week. This week has been on the Nature and Character of God. It has been both refreshing and challenging. We read scriptures together (twice, once in English and once in Kinyrwanda). We ask and answer questions together. As a team, we pray together, worship together, play together, eat together and just bond together. It really is a great team that I know will grow together even more as time goes on.
As far as every day life, well thats a bit different. All showers are lovely bucket showers with refreshingly cold water. Not too bad, it just takes a while to wash all of this hair! Toilets, just a step above squatty potties- they even flush like 70% of the time! Laundry is done by hand, going to town is done by foot, bus, or motor taxi. The food takes some getting used to. Rice, every day, lunch and dinner. Sometimes the combinations are tasty, sometimes they just fill our bellies. But still, I thank God that my belly doesn't growl at me.
Here are a few photos of life so far. Nothing impressive, or exciting but it's my home right now. And I love that it is.
My little space, not so clean. |
My view for 9ish hours on the flight over Africa. |
My little abode(room) that I share with 4 lovely ladies |

Welcome home! |
My Jesus is so good! He worked out every detail to get here and I know He will work out every detail from here on out. I would love if you could join me in prayer! Here are a few things to pray with me:
1. There are a few documents needed for a VISA. Pray that they all come together and all 14 of us will be able to go on outreach together!
2. I am so tired! Please pray with me that God would just strengthen me and fill me with energy and excitement for everything!
3. Continued team bonding - We are already close, but pray that we bond even closer, pretty much become a family!
Thank you guys, so much for all of your support! Everytime I hear that someone asks about me, I am blown away by the people that God has placed in my life! He is so good! If you would like to write or send goodies (I always like goodies =D) here is my address:
